2007 Older Work of the Year for District 11

District Older Worker of the Year chosen

VALDOSTA- Lucilla Wells of Lakeland was recently named 2007 Older Worker of the Year for District 11 by the Southeast Georgia Area Agency on Aging.

She will be a finalist for Georgia's Older Worker of the Year, which will be announced in August at the Georgia Older Worker Network conference on St. Simons Island.

She was nominated by Sara Walker, SCSEP Project director of ETC Schools, Department of Labor in Valdosta.

Wells is 63 years old and has been in the workforce for 48 years.

She is a CSBG Coordinator with Coastal Plain Area EOA, Inc., Lanier County Community Service.

Her duties include operating several programs, which are offered by the agency, especiallythe USDA Surplus Commodities Program for a mass food distribution in Lanier County.

Wells is also implementing the FEMA Program. This program assists low-income citizens citizens with help on their electric bills and targets the elderly citizens who struggle to pay for food, medicine, and electricity for heating or cooling their homes.

Her emplyers praise her highly, especially noting her caring attitude, efficiency, work ethic, and dependability.

She is a mature worker who is both a valuable asset to her community and a wonderful inspiration to others who might feel that age is stopping them from pursuing their goals, according to a spokesman.
